Measuring Your Windows Where do I measure from? Typically, plantation shutters are mounted within the window opening. This is referred to as an inside mount. For inside mounted shutters, measure between the side recesses for the width and from the inside edge of the top recess to the window board for the height. When the recess is not deep enough to accommodate shutters or you want the shutters to cover over the entire opening, you would use an outside mount. For outside mounted shutters, measure 50 mm beyond each recess or from the outside of an architrave moulding if there is one fitted.
Is my recess deep enough for an inside mount? The louvres used are 65mm (2½''). They can protrude 12mm (½'')beyond the recess when fully opened, so your recess will need to be at least 50mm deep. If your recess does not have this depth, you will probably need to go with an outside mount. What if my window opening is not square? If after measuring your window in several different places you find they're not square, order shutters to fit the smallest size of the opening and then the hanging frame can be adjusted to match the window. Do I allow for a hanging frame when measuring? No. We will make an allowance for the hanging frame when calculating the finished size of your shutters. Submit the full opening sizes to us. When pricing your shutters, divide the opening width by the number of shutters you require to give you the size of the shutter you need to price. Hanging frames are included in the price. How many shutters should there be in each opening? As every shutter is custom made to suit each individual opening, you can have any number within any particular opening. However there are a few things you should consider: - an even number of shutters will be aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well as being symmetrical. -the more shutters in an opening, the less visibility you will have. Where two shutters meet, you will have two stiles reducing light and view. -individual shutter panels should not exceed 500mm in width and 2450mm in height.
